Design Tip - Sending Large Files

Larger projects require larger files. When creating multiple page projects and large format signs, sometimes the artwork will be too big to send in an email. Here's how we deal with large files:

Upload to the Printer - If the printer we're working with has an upload service, we prefer to use that since that's usually their preference too. But with so many other resources to send large files, a lot of companies no longer need to offer their own upload service.

Email - Maximum file attachment sizes are usually 25 MB, but in some Exchange accounts or older versions of Outlook may have limits of 10 MB or less.

Gmail - If you use Gmail, when attempting to send a large file, it will automatically upload the file and provide a link instead. When you click send, you'll get a prompt to set permissions for those files. For most files, you'll want to select that anyone with the link can view.

Google Drive - If you don't have Gmail, or already have your files organized in Google Drive, you can share a link to the large file, or even a whole folder. Unless they contain private information, we suggest sharing a link instead of sending individual invites, since other people at the receiving company may need to access it. Generally, the receiver does need to have a Google account to download the files, but the file size does not count towards receivers individual account limits.

WeTransfer - wetransfer.com accepts files up to 2 GB on a free account. Uploading sends an email with a link to the receiver to download the file. Great for those who don't like to use Google and possibly the easiest service to use.

Dropbox or OneDrive - Not our preference, since these are less receiver friendly, but still an option. OneDrive sometimes requires a Microsoft account, which can be complicated if the receiver isn't a paying Microsoft user. Dropbox limits file size to the receiver's account limits, so if the receiver has other files saved in Dropbox, it can be difficult to download new files.
